Amplify Utah Photo Lab ("the Photo Lab," "we," "us") is a student photojournalism platform operated by Stack Events. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Effective July 27, 2026.
1 Who this covers
This policy applies to everyone who uses the public Photo Lab site at amplifyutah.stack.events — visitors browsing the gallery, and newsrooms with accounts. Student photographers and staff are covered by a separate agreement through Amplify Utah and their school.
2 What we collect
For visitors, we don't require an account to browse the gallery, map, search, or events, and we don't ask you for personal information to look at photos.
For newsroom accounts, when you sign up we collect your name, email address, organization, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.
When you download a photo, we log the download to your account — which photo, when, and the IP address and browser your request came from. This is a security and licensing record: it lets us honor takedowns, investigate misuse, and show you your own download history.
3 Why we collect it
We use this information only to run the Photo Lab: to sign you in and keep your account secure, to unlock full-resolution downloads for verified newsrooms, to show you your download history, to enforce the publishing terms, and to respond when you contact us. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
6 Our photographers are minors
Many Photo Lab photographers are high-school students under 18. We take that seriously. Student accounts and any personal data about student photographers are handled under a separate agreement with their school and Amplify Utah, not through this public site. Newsrooms are asked to route all contact with a photographer through Amplify Utah rather than reaching out to a student directly — see the publishing terms.
7 How long we keep it
We keep your account and its download history for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we remove your personal profile information but may retain download and security logs for a limited period where we need them for licensing records, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
8 Security
Passwords are hashed with a modern one-way algorithm, account traffic runs over HTTPS, and full-resolution files stay behind verified logins. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to limit who can access it.
9 Your choices
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to close your account and delete your profile. You can change your password at any time from the sign-in page. To make any of these requests, contact the team.
10 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. When we make a material change we'll update the date at the top, and significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
